Heavenly Discipline – Hebrews 12:10

discipline“But he disciplines us for our good, that we may share his holiness.” (Hebrews 12:10, ESV).

Just as our earthly parents disciplined us and we respected them for it, so God disciplines us and we should respect Him as well.

God’s discipline proves that He considers believers to be his children.

For our Heavenly Father, it is both appropriate and necessary to discipline us. But, while human parental discipline is sometimes arbitrary, God always disciplines His children for their own good.

The focus of God’s discipline is our faithfulness–faith that perseveres and endures through the troubles and trials of life and into eternity.

These trials and tests are to our benefit; they prove that our heritage is with God, they require a response of faithfulness; and, they produce God’s holiness in our lives.

Submit to the discipline of the Lord and you will become a better child of God for it.

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, ESV).
