“But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord’…they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds” (Luke 2:10-11, 17-18, NASB).
A new father wants to tell somebody about the great event. Imagine a proud new father excitedly telling his friends and even people he doesn’t know, “It’s a boy!” or “It’s a girl!”
Just as any human father, the Heavenly Father was overjoyed at the birth of His Son. So, He sent angels to announce the birth of His Son. But the Father sent His messengers not to kings or governors or religious leaders but to lowly shepherds in fields watching over their flocks of sheep.
The greatest event ever to take place in the history of the earth and God announces it to shepherds!
The Incarnation demonstrates the humility of God. Almighty God became a human being. He was born in a barn with a feed trough for a crib. Then, this cosmic event is announced by angels to shepherds!
And, these lowly shepherds became the official messengers of God and excitedly proclaimed the news of the infant Savior telling people: “It’s a Boy! It’s the Messiah!”
And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:14, NASB)
