“Don’t you know that your body is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God in your body” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20, HCSB).
In Chapters 5 and 6 of 1 Corinthians the Apostle Paul discusses specific immoralities that had been reported to him. The misconduct of the Corinthian church that Paul addresses in these chapters are sexual immorality and lawsuits against one another.
Paul concludes his verbal assault on the moral failures of the Corinthian church by emphasizing that not only should they have the mind of Christ (vs. 2:16), but they also must glorify God in their bodies because it is a sanctuary of the Holy Spirit.
So, Paul is saying that for your life (and your body) to be a place where God abides, then it must be a holy place.
Because God’s sanctuary is a holy place!
My pastor says that for God to have rule over your life, you must follow God’s rules, obey His commands.
In other words, God’s Rule necessitates that you abide by God’s Rules!
“God’s rule requires God’s rules,” he says
The Apostle Paul told the Corinthian church:
- Your body is the residence of the Holy Spirit.
- You are not your own.
- Your were bought with a price.
- So glorify God in your body.
But, God can’t be the King over your life unless you obey the edicts that the King has issued. In effect, God has rule over your life only when you obey His rules.
So, the Holy Spirit can’t abide in the same place that sin and immorality abide. You can’t be joined to God and practice unrighteousness.
Live by God’s rules and God will rule over your life!
“If you love me, you will keep my commands” (John 14:15, HCSB).
