“Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles.” (‭Acts‬ ‭2‬:‭43‬ NASB)

Our spiritual life can begin to drift when we neglect the practice of our Christianity, our relationship with Christ, our salvation! “For this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away from it… how will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?” (‭Hebrews‬ ‭2‬:‭1,3; NASB).

We know we are drifting when we become casual Christians, convenience Christians, expedience Christians. We only read our Bible when a verse is displayed on the screen during a church service. We only give our money and time to the Church when it doesn’t interfere with our own personal wants and needs. We only pray when tragedy strikes.

But, there were no nominal Christians in the Book of Acts! Acts Chapter 2 records the birth of the Church. The power of the Holy Spirit filled the Apostles and disciples during the festival of Pentecost not long after the death and resurrection of Jesus. The Apostle Peter preached a powerful sermon and thousands of people became Christians and began following the teachings of the Apostles about Jesus.

The power of God was active among these first generation believers and many miracles took place at the hands of the Apostles. As a result these Christians continued to feel a sense of awe about God because many signs and wonders were taking place among them.

The best way to avoid spiritual drift is to be an active Christian, to experience the power of God at work in, around, and through your life. When we observe or experience the power of God at work in our lives, then we naturally feel a sense of awe about God.

And, if we serve an awesome God, then we should feel some awe about Him!
